Professional Development in Comics and Visual Literacy

July 25–29, online and Española Public Library

Who is it for? The professional development is designed for language arts and social studies curricula.

What will be learned? You will uncover the language of comics, learn how visual literacy functions, and apply newfound skills to develop a lesson plan that uses comics to teach a topic of your choice. 

When will this take place? The course runs July 25–29. Three days will be virtual, and two in-person at Española Public Library. We will meet about two hours per day Monday–Friday, 10 am–12 pm with one additional session from 1–3 pm on Wednesday, and be available for office hours 6–7 pm. 

What are Costs? Stipends? The course is free and you will receive a stipend for attending. Materials will be provided. 

How many educators will participate in the pilot? Space is limited to 12 educators.

What is my commitment once I am accepted? You will attend 2 hours per day, and complete homework projects estimated at 2–3 hours per day.

When is the deadline to apply? Applications must be submitted by April 15, 2022.  Deadline extended to April 22, 2022! You will be notified of acceptance by April 30, 2022.

Who is presenting this? 7000 BC is a Northern New Mexico-based nonprofit supporting independent comics creators and offering comics education to the public.
