7000 BC returns to New Mexico’s best and longest-running Sci-Fi & Fantasy literary and arts convention the weekend of August 21–23. We will be in the Dealers Room with books from group members. We will also be working on our live rats drawing and raffle throughout the event.

7000 BC at Slice of Life Minifest

Slice of Life Second Anniversary Minifest | Sunday, April 27 | noon–5:00 | Slice of Life Anime and Manga | Albuquerque, NM

7000 BC is happy to be a part of Slice of Life's anniversary celebration. We'll be set up in the back and running workshops throughout the day:

12:30 — What are a comics?
1:30 — Advanced Workshop
2:30 — Intro to Comics
 
These are fast-paced, hands-on looks at what makes comics and manga different from anything else. Workshops are free and run about 50 minutes. No special drawing skills required, no equipment needed. Open to all ages, though younger children should be accompanied by an adult.
 
We'll also have independent comics and prints from local artists, jam comics where you can add the next panel, and a creator’s station open to all!

Atomicon 2024

 


Atomicon | Saturday, August 31 | 10:00 am–5:00 pm | Mesa Public Library | Los Alamos, NM

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos will host Atomicon, its third celebration of art, illustration, comics, costumes, superheroes, fantasy, and science fiction.

Free, with comic-themed crafts for all ages, workshops to explore illustration and zine building, and life drawing sessions to take in and show off the excellent costumes on display. Discussion panels and workshops, including several featuring 7000 BC members, will give insight into the creative process of professionals and provide inspiration to dig deeper into world-building. The programming starts at 11:00, check out the full schedule here.

7000 BC and friends and members will be in the Vendor Hall at Fuller Lodge 10:00 am–5:00 pm along with local artists and artisans from Los Alamos and the wider region with books, art, games, clothing, stickers, zines, and much more.

Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse is also offering a singular opportunity to join a play-through of Coyote & Crow, register for 10:00 or 2:00.

Prepare Your Rats. It's 7000 BC at Bubonicon 55!

7000 BC returns to Bubonicon, Albuquerque's sci-fi and fantasy literary and arts convention, on August 23–25 and there will be rats for all!  Plus longtime 7000 BC member and friend Dale Ray Deforest is this year's Artist Guest of Honor!

We'll have a table in the Dealers Room where we'll be selling comics from members and promoting our workshops. We're looking for volunteers to help staff the table throughout the weekend — if you're available and interested, email jeff@7000bc.org. 

  • Peter Ziomek will be hosting a drawing session this Friday, August 16 at Slice of Life Anime and Manga to get a jump on this year's raffle drawing featuring 55 Rats!
  • The annual Artists Chat will be Friday evening at 8:30 pm in Salon A-D.
  • Artist Guest of Honor Dale Deforest will show his work in a Slide Show Saturday at 3:05 - 4:20 PM in the Carlsbad Room.
  • Dale will also contribute to two panels: Myth, Gods, and Monsters Across Cultures on Saturday at 12:00 - 12:50 PM in Salon A-D; and Creativity Off the Page: Other Endeavors on Sunday at 10:00 - 10:50 AM in Main Room - Salon E.
  • Local Artists 
Jeremy Montoya and Jon Sanchez will discuss their process with Bubonicon Presents: Making a Movie Poster, Saturday 12:00-12:50 PM
 in the Carlsbad Room.
  • Jeff will be lecturing on comics and activism in Truth, Justice, and the American on Sunday 1:45 - 3:15 pm in the Carlsbad Room.

Atomicon Seeking Vendors and Gallery Artists | Deadline Extended to July 1, 2023 | Mesa Public Library | Los Alamos, NM

Atomicon is returning Saturday, August 5th, and they're seeking vendors and gallery artists!  
 

VENDORS!
The deadline to apply has been extended to July 1, 2023!

This is a great opportunity to sell your wares.  They had over 1500 attendees last year!
The rules are simple:
• Tables are FREE.

• You can only sell items that you personally had a hand in.
• If you don't have a business license, you must sign up with the county for a one-day vendor's license. (They can walk you through the process.) UPDATE!!!  Vendors do not need a business license if they are not selling food and if they sell in Los Alamos County fewer than three times per year across all venues.

The deadline to apply to Artomicon in the Step Up Gallery is July 1, 2023!

The gallery show will run July 13th to August 5th.
• All ages may apply.

• All work must be original.

• Any media is welcome, 2D or 3D.

• 2D pieces must be hang ready.

• You may submit up to 5 pieces.
• All sales will be through the artist.  The library will post contact information.

•
There is NO COST to submit art to the exhibition.
• Artwork must be delivered to the Step Up Gallery on Friday, July 7 from 1pm to 5:30pm or Saturday, July 8th from 10am to 2pm. Please have your name, title of art and phone number written on the back of all submitted art. (If you cannot deliver artwork on these dates, contact Jeff.)
