Comics Workshops! Displays! Education! and Jeff Smith! It's the 20th Annual 24 Hour Comics Day!

20th Annual 24 Hour Comics Day 2023 | Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8 | Noon to Noon | All Ages | FREE | Hybrid

20 Years of 24 Hours?  Yes, it's the 20th Annual 24 Hour Comics Day!  And we'll be celebrating from now through October!

24 Hours. 1440 Minutes. 86,400 Seconds.  24 Hour Comics Day is an annual international celebration of creativity!  The challenge is for participants to create a complete 24 page comic book in 24 consecutive hours. It's a creative exercise that will test your stamina while you explore what you're capable of!

7000 BC has partnered with the City of Albuquerque to bring you a months-long celebration of the comics medium culminating in 24 Hour Comics Day on Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8, 2023.  Get in the mood by joining us for one of our Albuquerque Library Workshops, or at our Between the Panels series of virtual Saturday morning comics workshops returning August 19th.  If you're a librarian, watch for professional development in August and September, or anyone can learn a bit about the history of comics and 24 Hour Comics Day with displays in September and October at the International District Library. Or join us September 16th, in person or virtually as we bring you Stephen McCranie (Space Boy, Mal and Chad) in a live interview with JEFF SMITH (Bone, RASL, Tuki, Yes, that Jeff Smith)!

That oughta get you ready to make some comics!  Then at Noon on October 7th, we'll begin making comics and we'll keep making them until Noon on October 8th (Mountain Daylight Time)!  We'll be there both virtually and in-person for community,  inspiration, free raffles, and support.  In-Person and Virtual Registration will be through Eventbrite beginning in late August.  We will need a parent or guardian's consent for minors.  Twelve and under require a parent or guardian be present.  Participants do not need to stay the entire time.  Meet fellow creators, be inspired, and challenge yourself to make a 24-page comic in 24 hours!

The Virtual Authors Festival: Visual Storytelling is this year's celebration of story that is presented annually by the Octavia Fellin Public Library.  The festival typically brings in 1500 participants for presentations and workshops from artists, filmmakers, poets, and authors to get your summer rolling with storytelling and creativity during the entire month of May.  All events are free and virtual, including a Between the Panels workshop.

We're excited to partner with AIGA-NM (American Institute of Graphic Arts) for the first of a series of events exploring where comics and design overlap and diverge.  This series will be presented through a variety of venues as it develops.
