7000 BC is offering a series of free comics workshops in September and October in the Community Room (off the childrens room) at Santa Fe Library Southside:
Introduction to Comics-Making Part 1 | Saturday, September 5 | 11:00 am–noon
Introduction to Comics-Making Part 1 | Wednesday, September 23 | 6:00–7:00 pm
Word and image combine in comics to form a storytelling medium like no other. Discover the visual language that makes comics unique in this fast-paced, hands-on workshop. Take the first steps to becoming a comic creator or just learn more about the art form. Though you will be drawing, this is not an illustration class — stick figures are just fine. Best for ages 10 to 100, but all are welcome.
Truth, Justice, and the American | Wednesday, September 30 | 6:00–7:00 pm
Despite their "grown-up" inception, comics quickly came to be considered merely "kid stuff." Reflection on the actual history reveals comics to not only offer up a mirror of our fears and beliefs, but to in fact be essential in the evolution of our culture. We see this in the stories told in comics, the struggles of creators, issues within the industry, and moments when comics have stepped beyond the comics realm to become an active force in shaping both domestic and global culture.

Picking up where the Introduction to Comics-Making part 1 left off, take a deeper dive into making comics. Explore the weird way that time works between panels, explore how to create singular characters, and more. Participants should have attended the Part 1 class.
