UPDATE!  PLEASE READ!

Jeff Smith is recuperating from a cardiac arrest suffered on August 13th.  The Cartoon Books team has announced that all of Jeff's in-person appearances for the year have been cancelled.  However, because he will be attending via Zoom, this event has not yet been changed.  They are waiting for a bit to see how Jeff is doing and if he feels up to it.

If Jeff cancels, we will still have an event at DATA Charter School on Saturday, September 16th.  The new event will be an interview with Stephen McCranie (Space Boy, Mal and Chad), who was planned to be Jeff's interviewer.  We will still have the interview with Jeff at a later date, when his health allows.

We will let you know when we hear from Cartoon Books.  All tickets to the event are free.

If you feel motivated to help cartoonists who cannot afford medical expenses, consider making a donation to  the Hero Intiative.  The Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for comic creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. Since inception, the Hero Initiative has been fortunate enough to benefit creators with more than $1 million worth of much-needed aid, fueled by your contributions! It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
5:00 PM MDT

Live at DATA Charter School and online via Zoom

Multi-award winning Jeff Smith (yes, that Jeff Smith!) is one of the most popular cartoonists in the world.  Best known for the self-published comic book series Bone, his books have been translated into more than thirty languages.  His engaging comics storytelling, also seen in RASL, Rose, Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil, and more, can now be seen exploring the dawn of humanity in Tuki!.

Join 7000 BC as we interview Jeff Smith from his home in Columbus, Ohio.  Jeff will talk with us about his early days creating indie comics, how things have evolved creatively and practically from then until now, and how that's all led to his current work with Tuki!  At the end we'll have a Q&A, and then raffle off a few signed copies of his books.

The interview will be run by New Mexico's own award winning cartoonist Stephen McCranie!  Stephen began his career with Mal and Chad in the University of New Mexico's newspaper.  His current series, Space Boy, is among the top sci-fi webcomics in the world.  We'll raffle off a few copies of his books as well.

The event is graciously being hosted by the Digital Arts and Technology Academy (DATA) Charter School.  For those attending in-person, Stephen and members of 7000 BC will stick around for drinks, snacks, and any questions or comics of your own that you'd like to share.

This is a hybrid event presented in partnership with the City of Albuquerque.
